How can I view MrSID files?
There are several ways to view the Orthophotos (in MrSID format) in this package.
1) Install the ExpressView browser plug-in included on DVD 1. The ExpressView Browser plug-in will allow you to view, print, and export MrSID files in your Internet Explorer, Netscape, or Safari browser. In order to install the plug-in navigate to DVD 1 and double click the exview_setup file and follow the instructions on the screen. After the plug-in is installed you can double click any MrSID file on the DVDs or saved to your hard drive and it will open in your web browser. The plug-in will allow you to pan, zoom in or out, measure, print, or convert MrSID files to TIFF, JPEG, GIF, BMP, or PNG. You need to right click on the image and "save as" to convert it to the above formats. An extensive help file can also be accessed by clicking the “?” icon.
There are several other free MrSID viewers and you can search for them on Google's web site. Please note that the MrSID files are not compatible with the MrSID Viewer provided with the 2002 Ortho CDs/DVDs.
2) MrSID files can also be viewed directly in the ArcGIS Environment. When MrSID images are taken into ArcGIS Environment, all other data layers in our database can be overlaid with them.
Troubleshooting
ArcGIS 9.2 Users:
If you have upgraded to ArcGIS 9.2, you need to go to ArcCatalog, right-click on the SID image, select "properties" and then go to "Spatial Reference". Next, select Edit and then the "Modify" option and change the linear unit from "Meters" to "Foot_US". This is a known ESRI bug and we will post updates as they become available to us.
Attention DALIS Reader users of Version October 2007 and later:
Because of a fix on Service Pack 3 of ArcGIS 9.2 you can now view the ortho file in SID format with DALIS Reader. In order to do this you need to download an .aux file. After you have downloaded the file you need to unzip the .aux file to your DALIS Reader\Data\Orthos folder (typically on your C:\Program Files folder).
ArcView 3X Users:
Please note that ArcView 3.2, 3.2A, and 3.3 users need to download the latest MrSID extension to be able to view the new ortho files. To download click here. As in any other ArcView 3X extensions you need to unzip the .dll file and copy it into \ESRI\AV_GIS30\ARCVIEW\BIN32 folder. You will need to overwrite to old .dll file.
AutoCAD Users:
Similar to the older version of MrSID file, the new version cannot be opened directly in AutoCAD either. However, users who have "AutoCAD Map" application will be able to open the SID files directly. As in the past, you can use the free viewer included in the DVD (ExpressView plug-in) to convert the SID file to TIFF format and then import the TIFF file into AutoCAD.
