Why can't I always see the location of sex offenders?
The sex offender location data layer (i.e. red balloons) is hidden at the county level and will only appear after you zoom into approximately a 3 mile x 3 mile area on the map (or a scale of 1 inch equal +/- 2600 ft). *The scale bar can be found in the bottom right corner of the map.
Also note that the parcel lines and the aerial photo do not appear at the same scale as the sex offender locations. These two layers appear at approximately a 1 mile by 1 mile area (or a scale of 1 inch equal +/- 870 feet).

How is the 1000 foot school buffer layer created?
A 1000 foot buffer is drawn around the boundary of all school properties in the county that either a school structure is located on or children activities occur on them. This explains why you may see a school buffer zone but no school symbol
inside of that buffer. Each year the ownership status of all school properties is verified with each school district.
