NLF_ID
Listed below are ODOT's brief descriptions of NLF_ID fields:
NLF_ID Example: CDELCR00123**C
Character 1: Jurisdiction- A single letter code indication primary authority or ownership. S-State, C-County, T-Township, M-Municipality, P- Private
Character 2-4: County - Three letter ODOT code indication County.
Character 5-6: Route System - A two letter code indicationg the type of system. IR - Interstate, US - US Route, SR - State Route, CR - County Road, TR - Township Road, MR - Municipality Road, PR - Private Road. Initially, the code may seen to be duplication of jurisdictiion, but the intent of the NLF_ID is to allow it to be used with different modes of transportation, as well as, other types of roads (ie: A State Park Road would have jurisdictiion code of "S" but the Route System would be "PR". County Park Road would have a Jurisdiction of "C" and have a Route System of "PR" ( Delaware County does not have any County Park Roads).
Character 7-11: Route Number - The number assigned to a particular Route. In case of less than five digits, the left side is padded with zero's.
Character 12: Route Number Extension - A single letter used with the Route Number to ensure uniqueness (ie: County and Township Roads often use an ending character: County Road 10 is different from County Road 10A).
Character 13: Route Description - A secondary description of the Route normally associated with State System. A - Alternate, P - Proposed, B - Bypass, etc.
Character 14: The Cardinal Direction - Majority of base network and associated attrubutes based on Center Line. When a new ID is developed, consideration is given to the future creation of bi-directional system (ie: Interstate system typically multi-lane divided road. Attributes (traffic, pavement, etc) can vary considerably between the direction of travel. To identify, one digit code indicates Cardinal (West to East and South to North) or non-Cardinal (East to West and North to South) direction. For future use, currently field is forced to C for Cardinal Direction).
