Sales to Appraised Value Ratio Analysis
Delaware County Auditor's GIS Office conducts a Sales to Appraisal Value Ratio analysis on a quarterly basis. Each quarter demonstrates the average sales/appraised value ratio of residential parcels for every entity in Delaware County (Ratio between 75 and 125 percent). It also shows the number of sales, average sales and appraisal value by jurisdiction. For more information click HERE.
Three Members of GIS Team Receive "GISP" Certificates
Jinhu Ju, Melissa Lobdell, and Tara Havens received their "GISP" certificates from GISCI Institution. Congratulations to all of them!
Two Members of DALIS Project's Staff Receive GIS Certificate
Both Melissa Lobdell and Tara Havens received their certificates for completion of the Geographic Information Systems Program from Columbus State Community College in Spring Quarter of 2007.
DALIS Project Wins Two National Awards
The National Association of Counties (NACo) announced that the Delaware County GIS Department has won two National Achievement Awards for its DALIS Web Interactive Map Server and Sex Offender Locator Applications.
NACo’s Achievement Award is a non-competitive program that recognizes counties for creative and innovative program development and implementation, efficient administrative management of county agencies and responsible government to local citizens. Since the program’s inception, NACo has honored hundreds of county government initiatives that have generated professional well trained workforces, maintained cost effective measures, and enhanced services to diverse populations to improve the overall quality of life. Awards are given in more than 20 categories, ranging from arts and historic preservation to volunteerism.
Zoning and Development Information
In June 2007, 21 data layers were added to DALIS Web IMS application under a new tab called the "Zoning" tab. The Zoning tab provides 19 zoning layers and two "Development in Pipeline" layers for Pending Rezoning proposals and Active Subdivisions (unrecorded). 18 of these zoning layers and the two "Development in Pipeline" layers are developed by Delaware County Regional Planning Commission. More detailed metadata is available at the layer level directly from the IMS application. The City of Delaware Zoning layer is developed by The City of Delaware Development Department. To access all the Zoning layers, go to the Zoning tab of DALIS Web.
Delaware County Annexation Application
After several months of research, data collection, and application development the DALIS team has launched Delaware County’s Annexation Application. Annexations and Conforming (Coterminous) Boundary proposals from as far back as 1853 to present time can now be searched either by the municipality name or by the year that the annexation was recorded. When searching, you can also use a combination of these two variables. As part of this project, every available Annexation and Conforming Boundary document was scanned and PDF versions of these scanned documents were linked to areas that the annexation and/or the conforming boundary was located in. Over 7,400 pages of scanned documents are now accessible from this application. You can also view our continuously updated parcels and road centerline layers as well as the 2006 Orthophoto imagery from this application. The application can be accessed from here.
2006 Delaware County Orthophotography and Topography Datasets
Delaware County 2006 Orthophotography and Topography datasets were released March 6, 2007. For more information click here.
Delaware County Sex Offender Locator
Delaware County sex offenders can be identified and located using DALIS Project's new application. To view the application click here.
GIS Day 2007
Delaware County's GIS team has been a GIS Day participant since this event started in 1999. In previous years, the event was held at the JVS North in 1999 and from 2000 to 2006 at Dempsey Middle School. To view the photos for 1999 to 2006 click on the links below:

This is the 9th year that Delaware County is celebrating the Geography Awareness Week and GIS Day.
The Geography Awareness Week is sponsored by the National Geographic Society, the American Association of Geographers (AAG), Environmental Systems Research Institute, Inc. (ESRI), the Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (URISA), and the University Consortium for Geographic Information Science (UCGIS). Since 1987, the National Geographic Society has sponsored Geography Awareness Week to promote geographic literacy in schools, communities, and organizations, with a focus on the education of children. This event was intended to promote the understanding of geography in schools around the world.
For the past 8 years, Delaware County GIS team has been visiting various schools within Delaware County educating students of various ages about GIS, Geography and GIS Day. However, this year the team headed south to Miami University in Oxford, Ohio to help a non profit organization called Caching Our World. The event was held November 13-15, 2007 and was a collaborative effort between Miami University, Caching Our World, and many other volunteers including Delaware County GIS team and GISCorps volunteers.
Click the thumbnails below to enlarge each photo.

While some of the volunteers ended up going onsite (on November 14th), others helped create attractive maps for the Map Gallery and prepare names tags and certificates for the students. Volunteers (from GISCorps and Delaware County GIS office) were:
Lucia Barbato, Shoreh Elhami, Tara Havens, Jinhu Ju, Melissa Lobdell, Patricia Moehring, Megan Winnenberg, and Susan Wolfinbarger. You can see the photos of some of the volunteers above.
The main theme of the event was "Africa 3D: Discovery, Diversity, Demographics" and the event brought tens of third to fifth grade students from Hamilton and Cincinnati public schools to this 3-day event. Activities included:
1. A treasure hunt where students learned about directions of a compass.
2. Hands-on Google Earth activities where students were given a series of clues and had to figure out which regions were being mentioned.
3. Oxford Gourd and Drum Ensemble provided musical entertainment from various regions of Africa.
4. Students made African tribal masks.
5. Wings of Wonder bird show from Cincinnati Zoo.
6. Nationally known storyteller from Oxford United Methodist Church, Pastor Fred Shaw, told fascinating children stories.

DALIS Project's Web Site Redesigned
DALIS Project's web site was completely redesigned and launched in May of 2006. The new web site contains over 190 web pages and makes over 800 maps and 230 data layers available to the public.
County's Orthophoto and LiDAR Project awarded to Merrick & Company
County's 2006 Orthophoto and Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR) project was awarded to Merrick and Company. This was the third time that Merrick was hired by the county. Merrick flew the county in April of 2006 and this time, the resolution of orthophotos for the entire county was at six inch pixel resolution as opposed to three varying resolutions of six inch, one foot and two feet in previous projects (1991, 1997 and 2002). Merrick is also providing the county with LiDAR datasets and 2 foot contours for the entire county. Both the orthophotos as well as LiDAR and contour datasets will be delivered to the county by February 2007.
DALIS Project's ArcIMS Application is Featured on Geography Network
DALIS Project's website is featured on the Geography Network. Geography Network is a global network of geographic information users and providers. It is managed by Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) and provides the infrastructure needed to support the sharing of geographic information among data providers, service providers, and users around the world.
